illegal consumption in Illinois
I was in the passenger seat of my friend's Chevy when we were pulled over for a faulty tail light (although the tail lights were functioning normally) the officer then told us our license plates came back to a Lincoln(later my friend went to the officer's car and the plates came back correct) and that he needed to search the car. He found a bottle of vodka which I claimed. I agreed to a breathalyzer and was taken to the jail after blowing .05. I was held in the library until my parents came and picked me up. I was issued a notice to appear in court for the illegal possession and consumption of alcohol. I am 17 and have a clean record with the exception of a couple speeding tickets. I am curious as to what I should expect from court

Re: illegal consumption in Illinois
You will lose your driver's license if you enter a guilty plea to illegal possession or consumption of alcohol. The Secretary of State and not the court will do this. The court and/or the State's Attorney will also require things of you. Depending on the jurisdiction and circumstances of your case, among other terms of your sentence, you may be required to perform community service work and/or complete an alcohol evaluation.
Contact an attorney in your area for more information. If you can't afford an attorney, request the public defender.
