Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

sticky situation

I am a traveling nurse and possess a IL drivers license. I was pulled over for a DUI in California. My attorney had this charged reduced to a ''wrecklace''. Unfortunately, the DMV suspended my license for one year on a refusal. Can I drive in any other state other than California?

Re: sticky situation

Illinois may or may not find out about the suspension. The only sure way to know, is to check with the Illinois Secretary of State and inquire as to the validity of your driving privledges. If you are valid in Illinois, then you should be valid in all other states except California. You may want to have a lawyer check this out for you, rather than you speaking with the Secretary of State's office.

Re: sticky situation

It is likely that both California and Illinois are "compact" states. This would place the validity of your Illinois license in jeopardy. Mechanically, it may take California a long time to post to the Illinois SOS. Even so, it is likely that Illinois will post points and not issue a suspension letter. However, you will have to play this one by ear. If you get a suspension letter, you should run and not walk to a lawyer in Illinois.
