Legal Question in Education Law in Illinois
Breaking a Private School Contract
My 9 year old is in a private school
and has been the target of
bullying.School response has been
ineffective. On top of this, a school
administrator broke a confidence that
I told her privately to another
employee who revealed it. My
daughter is very unhappy and so are
we.Do we have a chance to get out
of this contract and move my
daughter to a new school?I paid the
tuition up front for the year.

Re: Breaking a Private School Contract
Contracts are tricky... but the school might be willing to negotiate a settlement rather than face bad publicity. I would have to look at the contract before giving any opinion on whether you have a chance at recovering your tuition money.
In any event, I do not see anything preventing you from pulling your daughter out. If you are truly unhappy, you might consider sending her to public school for the year or just eating the loss and paying tuition at another private school.
