Legal Question in Education Law in Illinois
What remedies do I have for the following:
Missed an in class assignment due to illiness.
Notified instructor.
Instructor promised to give makeup assignment as well as points for attendance if I submitted a Doctor's Statement.
Doctor's statement presented.
Instructor refused to give makeup assignment after submission of Doctor's Statement.
Received a "D" in class.
While attempting to get this matter resolved, the Department Chair called me a liar. I addressed the issue with the Department Chair/school and no one bothered to respond.
After this incident I was granted permission to enroll in an internship/practicum to complete my degree.
After completion it was stated that no one knew about this practicum/internship and I would not be given credit. Therefore, I would have to repeat this unpaid practicum over again. Upon re-doing my internship/practicum, I would be given the missing assignment.
On my evaluation of my practicum/internship questionaire, prepared by the school, there was a question --If you had to assign a letter grade to this student's field of experience/practicum project, what grade would you give? My preceptor circled the letter "A".
My evaluation outlining my peformace/knowledge was "Perfect". My precptor sent a letter to me outling with regards to my internship and speaking with my advisor. Even with all the documentation, there has not been any action taken.
I have documention from my preceptor regarding communication between my advisor (same one who gave me permission to enroll).
I have documention from the school's Registrar. The registrar sent an email of all correspondence between all key players involved in giving me permission to enroll in this class.
Documentation was also sent to me by the advsior himself asking how the internship/practicum was going. The same advisor that supposedly knew nothing about my internship.
As of this date, I have not been allowed to graduate and received my Bachelor's Degree from the university simply because of this retalliation.

If the school does not have an internal dispute resolution process, you would have to hire an attorney. And if it does be careful because it may result in a "binding" decision that if you lost you could not appeal to a court through what's called administrative review.
