Legal Question in Elder Law in Illinois

My cousin is ruining my grandmother's credit

Good Afternoon, I would like to know what steps could my 73 year old grandmother take in getting my cousin to pay for his debts that are in her name. Because he had ''no'' credit and wanted a laptop, my grandmother got it for him using her credit. Unfortulately, the laptop is now missing. The company plans to take my grandmother to court over the $1500 debt. Secondly, my grandmother put his 1997 Cadillac in her name as well. He verbally promised my grandmother that he would keep up with the payments and insurance once he inlisted in the Army. He has been in the Army for almost a year and gets paid $1500 every two weeks and has not sent her any money toward the car, insurance or the laptop debt. My grandmother is on a fixed income and she has custody of her sons two youngest daughters. Are there any legal steps that I can help her take?

Re: My cousin is ruining my grandmother's credit

She is agreeing to the things you described, so how should she not be heald liable for debts she agreed to be on the hook for? She needs to stop agreeing to do things for him, and there won't be any further problems.
