Elderly parents & assisted living help
I am an only child and am responsible for my elderly parents, who I feel need to be in an assisted living facility. Their combined monthly income is about $3200 and assets are very limited. We live in northwest Chicago and have begun to look some facilities, but I wonder if there is any assistance available for paying from State or Federal sources, since my parents' cash would be depleted quickly with both of them in assisted living. They had never owned a home until about 1 and 1/2 years ago and have an interest only mortgage on their residence now. Selling of the residence probably will not provide much cash in light of the current real estate market. Any suggestions for me??

Check with an Elder Care Counsellor at a hospital or nursing home. They are there for this very situation. Good luck.
