My father has dementia and will need to go to a nusing home. My mother is sound of mind, but had a stroke 16 years ago, so speech and mobility is limited. They own their home, but no real assets besides that. If we do spouse in impoverishment my mother will not be eligable for state services. Is there any way to keep their home and still get services. My mother does not wanat to leave her home.

It sounds like your father is the one in need of Medicaid, not your mother. She is mentally competent and wants to continue living in the home. He needs nursing home care now.
So if I understand your question correctly, and you are in Illinois, then your father should qualify almost immediately for Medicaid. The home is an exempt asset.
Medicaid planning is complicated and more facts are needed to give legal advice. If your mother wishes to consult with me at no charge please visit my website at www.legacylaws.com and call the number you find there.
Take care.
