My father in law has stage 4 cancer, diagnosed yr ago. He is now on medicaid and medicare. And in collections due to medical bills. House is in his and wifes name. Still paying mortgage. He lives at home. My question is if his children pay off the house, can medicaid still put a lien on it? What can we do to save house?

Yes, they can place a lien on the house. It is not good planning to pay off the house. Mom needs to meet with a competent elder law attorney and plan these issues, if possible at this late date.
