Government selling house to pay nursing cost
We live with my mother in her house. She has fallen ill and needs to go into a nursing home. We(family of 5) have lived with her 14 years. Can the state make her sell the house to cover nursing home costs?

Re: Government selling house to pay nursing cost
If you have lived in the house 2 or more years with your mother just prior to her entry into a nursing home, then the house is exempt from sale to cover the costs of medicare and the nursing home. During the preceeding 2 years you must have helped take care of your mother. If you have any problems, please call me.

If she is still competent, you need to have her transfer the house to you right away, otherwise you will have to deal with probate later.
