Mother as Sole Person on Bank Accounts
My mother is 85 has dimentia/Alzheimer's and wants to be the sole person on her checking accounts. Now I am on the accounts with her jointly, and I pay her bills from one of these checking accounts. She's is convinced I'm stealing from her and I am not. The bank has shown her that the only activity in one acct is a VA check deposit for the last 13month. The other bank has shown her the checks and monthly statement for her bill paying. What she is doing is trying to balance a statement from several months ago with $$amts in her acct today. She has reported me to the banks, to the VA office, to the SS office, insisting that I am taking her money. She wants to be the only person on the acct. Should I sign off on these accts and let her fail on her own?(this is not my intent). I do want to protect her from herself, and protect me from her. I am afraid she will eventually go to the police and have me arrested. There are no other family members that she will agree to having on the accts with her, other than her youngest grandson (age 20) I don't feel he will act responsible enough to follow up on her bill paying, balancing her accounts, and handling any other of her financial issues. What do you recommend? I do have POA.

A power of attorney can be revoked at any time. The person granting the power of attorney can revoke it. You might consider going to court and being appointed guardian. You will need a lawyer to guide you.
