The nursing home where my mother lives was granted an "involuntary discharge". What happens if they cannot find a new facility that will approve her application due to financial private-pay/new medicaid app/gifting issues? We were unaware of gifting rules until now.

If you're saying that the nursing home kicked your mother out because she handed over her assets to you within 5 years of admission and now the home is being denied Medicaid coverage, you need to consult with an elder law attorney. Your lack of awareness of the gifting rules will not help you, but there may be a way to undo the damage with proper counseling.
