My parents are on medicaide. Dad in nursing home, mom in assisted living apt. Dad dies. An insurance policy is found thru his pension. They send mom a ck for $3,000. What can she do with the check to avoid ruining her medicaide? Can it be gifted to her 3 daughters? She does not want it as she has to be recertified at her apt every yr. and the paperwork is rediculus, changing amount of her rent as income changes. What do you suggest?

She can spend it. Gifting will not help. It will be reported by the insurance company.
