Legal Question in Elder Law in Illinois

Power of Attorney question

my husband's uncle is temporarily incapacitated due to illness - in ICU at a local hospital for 2+ weeks due to a diabetic episode. He cannot speak, is not alert, etc. Is it possible to get a temporary power of attorney so that we can handle his bills, etc. until he is able to do so himself? What steps do we need to take to do so if this is possible.

Re: Power of Attorney question

If your uncle can't communicate, you can't get a power of attorney. The POA requires his notarized signature and a witness. You will have to get a guardianship. Please call for a free consultation.
