MTV - Is the acronym copyrighted?

Does Music Television have a copyright on the acronym 'MTV'? If I was to print a shirt with the letters 'MTV' on it, could I get in legal trouble with MTV?

You mean trademark, not copyright.

Yes, MTV is registered to Viacom, Inc. for tee-shirts see http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=73530706 and yes you could get in trouble commiting trademark infringement of their registered trademark.
