Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Illinois

Showing movies at church

Our church would like to have a movie afternoon. We would not charge any admission. It would be a time to get together for a movie. Do we need to do anything, or can we watch our movies without worry?

Re: Showing movies at church

If your group rents the movies, you do not need to worry about anything. Go ahead and watch your movies. However, I certainly hope none of the movies you plan to watch is bootlegged, meaning movies that are replicated (i.e. copied) without permission of the copyright holder. It is an instance that can raise the issue of copyright violations. This is the only group of movies that may raise legal concern or results in legal action. Otherwise, enjoy your movies!
