Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Illinois

Texas Holdem tournaments-

I am in a boat club which holds a State of Illinois liquor license with approximately 100 members. We would like to have a Texas Holdem Tournament at our club house. We would invite outsiders to come to this. There would be an entry fee to cover a food buffet and award prize money (no liquor is included in this fee).

We have been told this is unlawful. But, there are some of these tournaments that are being held at other private clubs, such as the Elks.

We would like to know if (a)this is illegal in the state of Illinois, and (b)how are other clubs able to do this, (c)are there licenses a club can get to be legal.

Re: Texas Holdem tournaments-

Hello. The other clubs obviously are

using a loophole to hold these Holdem

Tournaments. I believe that getting the proper license could remedy the

problem. More Investigation is needed. Will be happy to discuss this

further and in more detail.
