Legal Question in Environmental Law in Illinois

neighbors power lines

I have a tall tree that is over my neighbors electric lines. after a big storm a branch was laying across thier power lines doing no damage when removed. now they are saying we have to trim the tree. we really cant afford to do that right now. do we have to trim the tree just because they want us to?

Re: neighbors power lines

I will assume that the lines in question belong to the neighbor and not a utility company, as you suggest. If the branches that are over their line are over their property, they probably cannot make you trim them, but they can trim them themselves, as long as doing so doesn't kill the tree.
