Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I have 2 boys, one is 12, the other is 16, how long(many hours) can they be left alone at home? I work at night when they are sleeping & call them in the morning to make sure they get up & ready for school.

It is a close call. The 16 year old may be old enough, but courts do not like children left alone overnight. The issue is whether the 16 year old is mature enough to handle being the babysitter for his younger brother.
