Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
I am 36,i just moved back to illinois.I had to switch my dl.they informed me i would need a birth certificate or adoption decree.since i thought i had been adopted by my step dad i wrote the judge and asked for a copy of the adoption decree.i was informed by his office that there was no adoption decree in the file.i then wrote the judge and asked him for a copy of the file.upon recieving the file i had it looked over by an attorney and was informed the adoption never took place.the problem is that since first grade i was registered in school under his name and have always used that name because i thought that was what my name was.it isnt that name and has never been that name.now i'm fighting every step of the way to regain my rightfull name with the drivers liscence facility, the social security office, the college i went to,all past employers,my bank, and anyone else i've been involved with in the past.i know this has to be illegal what my mom and step father did,can i press criminal charges against them/sue them?

From the facts you have related, it does not appear that any crime was committed. As to suing him, I am not sure what tort he may have committed. Ask a personal injury attorney that question, not a family lawyer.
