Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

$47,000.00 past due child support

I was divorced in 1985 and my ex-husband was ordered to pay child support for 3 kids. Nothing was ever recieved because he never paid. He only lives 45 minutes from myself and kids and has always lived that close. I receive a statement from Child Support Division advising what he owe's and how much his is to pay and that his wages are to be garnished. I still get nothing. He had a workman's comp. settlement, I received nothing. Where and how do I get help?? Where do I begin?? Is it worth it?

If you are in St. Louis County, I would suggest contacting the prosecuting attorney's office. They have a special unit for child support enforcement, and it sounds as if your ex may be charged with felony non-support. Often a Dad who is charged with a felony will be placed on probation upon the condition that he make certain payments on the back support and keep current support current. I believe that the prosecutor's office in other counties may have similar programs. Good luck.
