Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I have a 2year old and his father receives SSDI. He was ordered to pay child support and back payments. He has not paid anything yet. Is it possible for me to receive SSDI benefit payments? Can I get both or will one cancel out the other? I do not wantr to try and get benefits and then he starts paying and I end up owing for an overpayment
