Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Ok, I have been with someone for 15 years and we have three children together, He is abusive. I am 99.9% sure with everything he has done he will not even be granted supervised visits. I plan on obtaining a restraining for me and the kids. I am expecting a large settlement as a result of a bad car accident. I am leaving him before I get the money.My sister in law is telling me that he can get half if my money. Is that true? We were never married and lived together off and on.
