Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I'm 17 years old and have a 3 month old son. My ex (the baby's father) tells me that I am a legal adult, and so does his mom. Am I a legal adult or am I still under my mothers care since I am only 17.

You are still a minor in the eyes of the law. You can make medical decisions respecting your son but that is about all. At the present time your parents are responsible for both you and your baby. Neither your boyfriend or his mother know what they are talking about and neither seems to have your interests at heart.
