Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I am 16 years and my parents are divorced and have joint custody of me. My mother lives in illinois and my dad lives just over the border of Wisconsin about 20 minutes from my mom. The psychological abuse i suffer from my dad is far beyond bearable. I would like to know if there's any possible way that because I'm 16 now i can choose to stay at my moms rather than my dads. Please help my dads going to drive me to suicide in the VERY near future.

You should immediately discuss this with your mother, as she has joint custody of you, and because your preference to live with her. She should contact an attorney and discuss the possibility of having the current order modified to permit you to live with her in Illinois. That will depend upon where the judgment was entered (Wisconsin or Illinois) and which state has jurisdiction, not to mention when the judgment was entered. Regarding your thoughts of suicide, you should talk to someone you trust, or even a suicide prevention hotline, immediately. Because of your age your mom will have to act on your behalf before the court. Hang in there, this will pass and it will get better for you. You have to be strong and take care of yourself now. You also have to trust that your mother will help you with this.
