Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

ability to leave home

I have a friend who says he works in law on my msn list. He states that any child can move out at the age of 17, but they can not be kicked out. I was wondering if a child can move out at age 17 in the state of Illinois with no parental consent, or any other complicated matters involved. Please assist me in finding an answer. I am 18 and my girlfriend is about to turn 17. Her parents do not seem to do an adequate job of raising her and I want her out if possible. Thank you.

Re: ability to leave home

You are playing with fire. In Illinois a child can be emancipated at 17, but it must be done with the parents permission. Have you considered the consequences of getting between your girlfriend and her parents? Tell your msn friend who knows law that it's a felony in Illinois to give legal advice unless he's a licensed lawyer. If he knows the law, he would know that. Otherwise, he's some dummy that tries to impress people with his knowledge.
