Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
An acquaintance seems to have been misinformed about POA's in IL. An attorney said its involved than I see. To begin, the grantor isnt disabled or mentally ill.
~ Can an unrelated person have a lawyer create one?
~ Is it a legal document when done w/out the grantors knowledge? Can he be forced to sign?
~ Is a lawyer necessary when the forms are online and pretty straight forward? They don't appear confusing to me.
~ Does the POA have to be filed? I spoke w/a City employee who said they arent.
Thank you for your help!

It is more complicated than you think. The fact that you are asking questions about POA's proves that. Since this is your "acquaintance's" business, and he/she is not asking the questions, I suggest that you MYOB on something that is a very personal matter. You also don't say whether this is a POA for healthcare or property and those issues are handled differently.
Why would you ask a "city employee" for legal advice? If this is really important, I suggest that you pay a real attorney to advise your acquaintance and stop trying to play lawyer.
