Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
adoption
I received a summons to have my biological daughter adopted to the stepfather of a former girlfriend. I signed a Final and Irrevocable Consent to Adoption.
Do I still have to pay child support? What is the next step I need to take or is this the final step?

Re: adoption
When the Final and Irrevocable Consent To Adoption is acepted by the court and the adoption of the child by the step parent is approved by the court, you no longer have parental rights and you have no child support to pay. You should receive a copy of the Order of Adoption which confirms the adoption and the removal of your parental rights. The court approves such adoptions when it is shown to be in the best interest of the child.
