Alimony and Child Support -- Husband Returning to Pakistan
My husband and I live in the US, and have a child from our 14-year marriage. We are both US citizens, but are originally from Pakistan. My husband has a senior position in a hi-tech firm, and I am a stay-at-home mom. Our marriage has been rocky from the beginning, and it has grown to be terrible. My husband yells at me to get out of the house and taunts me that I cannot survive without his financial support for a day, and will have to live in trash if I leave him. I am tired of this constant insult and want to file a divorce. But he always threatens me that if I file a divorce, he will go back to Pakistan for good, and will therefore remain protected from paying alimony or child support. I have been living through hell just for my child, but I cannot take this emotional abuse any more, as it is beginning to have equally devastating affect on my child. My question to you is: If I file a divorce, can he really get off the hook from child support and alimony by returning to Pakistan for good? Is there anything that I can do while filing for a divorce to prevent him for doing this? Many thanks!

If there are marital assets, you are ok. For example a house or car. Your attorney can order that the home or car is held and unable to be sold pending the divorce.
