Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I need assistance with proceeding with a divorce. I married my wife while she was incarcerated for a drug possession felony charge and also an visa overstay immigration charge. I was doing what I could to help her from getting deported. The last that we actually lived together was 2 years ago. She was deported back to Poland via voluntary departure September of 2011. We need to proceed with a divorce. I am trying to see if this is something that I can pursue on my own or will I need a lawyer to represent me? Also, if it is necessary to hire a lawyer is a 2500 retainer standard?

From the best of my knowledge this can be done through irreconcilable differences no fault divorce or maybe abandonment? I am trying to see what is the most cost effective and fastest procedure to follow. Please help with my inquiries.

It depends on what assets you and she have. Many attys will handle this type of divorce for substantially less than $2500. You even might to be able to do it on your own. Is she willing to cooperate in the proceeding? If she is, it would go much quicker.
