Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My attorney for over 2 years really screwed up my case, encouraging me to accept a completely lopsided settlement in which "I" was to pay a large settlement when I should easily have been the one to receive a judgment in my favor. My lawyer was chronically inaccessible throughout the case, rarely returned phone calls, rescheduled and/or canceled almost every meeting and billed me for time when he was handling other cases. In court he came off as totally unprepared and made offers way over what I authorized him to do. What recourse do I have? Can I refuse to pay his fee? Sue him for malpractice? How would I achieve either of these and are there any legal repercussions? I keep impeccable records of everything.
