Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Attorneys fee

My ex husband filed 4 years ago for a reduction in child support. I have paid my lawyer 22K in those 4 years and I still don't have a new, valid CS order. I have not paid my lawyer the final 8K owed because I feel he has not represented me fairly. He is suing me for the outstanding fees. What can I do? I no longer live in IL and have not for 3 years.

Re: Attorneys fee

An attorney does not guarantee results. If he has performed the work that he has billed you for, you are responsible for the fees. If you feel that he has billed you for work not performed you can complain to the Disciplinary Commission. If you do not pay him, he will obtain a judgment.

You might want to send him a letter telling him that you are not happy with the quality of his services and why and offer to pay him less than the bill in a lump sum as a compromise.

Good luck
