Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My boyfriend which is 26 has to take care of his 16 year old niece, and her mother wants to give us sole custody of her child and i was wondering what paperwork i must have. we live in winnebago county in Illinois. Thanks

You have to file a guardianship action in Rockford. Go to the courthouse and ask for the forms. I do not think you both can get custody, as you are not married.
