Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My boyfriend has been going through a divorce now for a year and a half. First lawyer was let go because he wouldn't be aggressive and he wouldn't follow through with motions to compel. We hired another attorney and it has now cost us 14.000.00 just to have the same problem. My question is... after the pretrial, the judge told the ex wife to be to stop with all the bullcrap motions and if she didn't compel by the new trial date Jan 9th she would be in contempt. What happens if Jan 9th rolls around and she hasn't compelled and we don't have all the documents to get the divorce granted at that time. Seems like she is getting away with hiding, spending marital money, we are broke, and still are paying too much in child support. What do we do?

If your boyfriend has an attorney we can't chime in. If you are seeking legal advice, however, that would be different depending on what the grounds for divorce are. That being said, since you say there are children and if the mother has custody (or joint custody), my best thought is that it is highly unlikely a judge will cite her for contempt and throw her into lock-up until she produces what is required, especially if that actually is counterproductive, but anything is possible. Otherwise, this sounds very complicated and this unfortunately is not the kind of forum that can really help. He needs to hire an attorney who can protect him and his children.
