Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Hello, my boyfriend was with a girl for 8 years. They never married, but in those 8 years they had 3 children. They are working out visitation right now, but he is unhappy with the way the children are treated and would like full custody. She says he has no right to the children because they were never married. Even though his name is on the birth certificate, and all the children have his last name. Is there any way he can get custody of the kids without having to go get a lawyer and all that? We don't have the money for that.

Hi. Being married really has nothing to do with custody. If he wants custody, he will most likely need to hire a lawyer. Custody battles are complicated and not generally something someone should attempt without an attorney.
