Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My boyfriend and I are living together, and he is not on the lease. Our relationship has gone bad, and I have ask him to leave. he refuses to leave, and is giving me a hard time about it. He just got arrested for violating his probation, and left his possession as well as his saved cash money. I went to visit him in jail and stated to him that we need to end our relationship because it's just not working out. He stated if I want to break upwith him then send his possessions to his sisters. I called his sisters and they do not want to take his possession. I did the next best thing and had his possession put in a safe place like a public storage. I'm going to hand his one sister that he trusted with his money before the key to the storage unit as well as his cash money. Do you think I'm doing the right thing? Is there something else I should do? I also wanted to write a letter with a list of all of his possession/money and have it notarize. Please advice.

He is considered a tenant. He is entitled to an eviction notice, as any other tenant.
