Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
car loan cosigner
A man and woman who have lived together break up (no marriage involved in the situation). He is the cosigner on her car loan. She makes all the payments. He wants to get off the loan and has sent a letter from an attorney to the woman stating she must find a new cosigner or give him the car. Is this letter a scare tactic? What rights does the woman have? Can she simply tell him to go sniff a gas tank?

Re: car loan cosigner
Generally, courts will not require a person to give up their car in that situation (if they have been making payments). So the letter is a scare tactic. And regardless of who is right, a woman can always tell a man to sniff a gas tank.
