Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Do I have a chance at custody?
The maternal grandparents of my 10 year old son has custody of him. I moved from Illinois leaving him there w/ them because I was unstable and suffering from depression. My son has been raised by them from age 2 to now. I have paid child support ever month w/ proof. I have had constant contact w/ him via phone and mail. I have visited him at least once a year since leaving. I was never married to the mother. She wants nothing to do w/ them. The grandparents are telling me I have absolutely no rights and that if I want to see him I have to come to Illinois on their terms and schedule. They will never allow him to visit me in FLorida. I want to know what chances I have of getting my son. I have missed out on so much. I know the grandparents speak bad about me. I have gotten my life in order. I'm stable, engaged and bought my first house. My son and I get along wonderfully and he wants to spend more time with me. THe grandparents even changed his last name, taking my name, his birth name away. I have never agreed or signed anything whatsoever. Please help. What chances do I honsetly have of getting my son back after almost 8 years.

Re: Do I have a chance at custody?
Of course you have rights unless you signed away your rights. At any rate, you would most likely get visitation, etc.
