Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I want to change my childs last name to mine in Illinois. I have full custody of my child, and father is not involved and have no idea where he resides, he has child support obligations which he is severely behind on. I want to know, by changing my child last name, will this interfere with any child support obligations he currently has or any in the future? thank you.

Your request may well be denied. you must give him notice of your request, otherwise it is improper. Just because he may be a deadbeat, does not mean the child's name should be changed.
