Name change, am I responsible?

I've been married for over ten years. My spouse has a fifteen year old son from a previous boyfriend. The boys father does not pay child support and has never seen his son.

Now my spouse wants to change his last name to my last name. To be clear, they only want to do a legal name change for him, not an adoption. My question is will I be held responsible for child support in the event my spouse and I divorce?

Absolutely not. You have to adopt, be his mother biologically, or sign a VAP (at birth). You are safe.
