Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
cheap divorce
Time today: 11/2007: My son married 10/2006, and his wife left him 12/2006. She moved out and hasn't moved back and doesn't want contact with him. No children. She told him to get divorce because she couldn't afford it. He said he's not the one that wants it, so she can get it. How can they end marriage the cheapest way?

Re: cheap divorce
The "cheapest" way to divorce would be by way of an uncontested divorce which means that are no issues that will be "contested" or fought over. In other words, if both parties are in agreement of all issues (i.e. property division, dividing the marital debt, custody, etc), then an unocntested divorce would be your best bet. It should only involve one court appearance thus minimizing attorney fees.
Re: cheap divorce
An uncontested divorce is very cheap. People can do them without an attorney. My firm has dealt with this situation, and what we usually do is have the person fill out the personal information, and have an attorney review the document just to make sure it sails through the courthouse. Costs a couple of hundred dollars and is over very quickly.
