Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

child abandonment

My daughters father has not see her since she was born which has now been 7 years. Is there any way I can get his rights taken away. I don't want child support and definitely don't want him in her life. Is there like an abandonment law?

Re: child abandonment

There is. It is a process in which you (usually through an attorney) petitions the court and establishes certain facts and circumstances that meet IL law regarding abandonment, and you can get a court order to that effect. Such a Petition must meet certain criteria, so I would need to know a little bit more about your situation to assure you that you indeed would be able to satisfy the court that indeed there was abandonment.
