Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Child Name Chamge

My daughters father signed her birth certificate, but she has my maiden last name. I am getting ready to be married. I want to know if I can change her name to my new married name without any fuss from her father? I have read the law about if child had her father's last name, but she does not. Do you still have to petiton to change childs name even if she has my maiden last name?

Re: Child Name Chamge

Hello. In my opinion, you do have to petition for your child's change of name because your child has a father and by law he must receive notice. Your child's father has parental rights

that the court will want to protect. I will be

happy to answer any additional questions that you

might have.
