Re: Child Custody
Your friend should go to a lawyer and get custody formalized in court. He should realize though that he will probably be paying child support for the next 18 years.
I recommend, before formalizing anything, that your friend get a test done to ensure that he is the father. I am sure that he loves the child and is willing to help, but he does not want to get stuck supporting someone else's baby.

Re: Child Custody
Of course. He has a right to see his child. Of course, it take going to court to enforce those rights.
