Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

child custody

I have custody of my girl. We just moved to Illinois and she was staying temporarily with her father's mother until I had a place suitable. I now do. Her grandmother pressed the issue of being a guardian for signing school papers, etc. I did. Now she is saying I cannot have her live with me for 1 year. What can I do?

Re: child custody

Was there a court proceeding for guardianship, or did you just sign a guardianship agreement? What state was the guardianship established in? That would help an attorney that knows the laws of the relevant state help answer the question.

Re: child custody

File a motion to vacate the guardianship. I assume this was court ordered. If there is no court order just go get te child. If you and her signed some form that has never been into the court system they are worthless, get your child.
