Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Child Custody

I never married, my son is 4 I want to file for custody due to his mothers attempt at suicide which is documented by a police report. She is bi-polar, manic and on various meds., she no longer communicates with me on his well being. We have had shared custody for the last 3 years no papers. What are my chances of gaining custody due to her inability to make decisions for herself? I own my own home and been employed as a police officer for the last 15 years. I have been completely financiallly responsible for him to date...
