Does a child that was put up for adoption and adopted have any rights to their biological parent's estate when the parent passes away, but leaves no will?

Generally no - the adoption severs the relationship. But it depends on the state where the decedent's estate is to be handled and possibly the adoption order. There's a fairly good publication at:

You'll need to talk to a probate lawyer and may need a copy of the order of adoption.
