Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
child support
A friend of mine went through a bad divorce, they have 4 young children. When it went to court for child support, she did not have an atty. He did. He has worked for his Father for 14 years. He showed paperwork to the Judge stating that his Dad had cut his wages, basically saying he makes poverty level now. For 14 years he made a very decent salary. My friend knows this is not true. She is getting practically no support for these 4 kids. How does she go about taking him to court and proving that he still makes the same if not more money, when his Dad is helping cover for him.She is struggling to raise these kids on her own, while he is living comfortably with his girlfriend. She has no money to hire an attorney or PI. What are the steps she needs to take in order to get support for the kids. Thanks in advance.

Re: child support
Hello. Your friend should contact the State's
Attorney's Office in the county where she lives.
The State law provides for enforcement of child
support in every county in Illinois. She should
do this immediately. The State's Attorney will
not charge her; she's a taxpayer and taxes go
to pay for this service. Historically, this
remedy for recovery of child support was
instituted to keep people off the public aid
roles of the State of Illinois. I will be happy
to answer any additional questions that you may
have.
