Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

child support

I have a notice of hearing sent to me. It states if you fail to appear, a judgement by default may be entered for the relief requested. Does this mean I have to appear in court or not?

Re: child support

Hello. Yes, you should appear in court and protect your rights and you should have a lawyer.

Due process requires that you be sent notice of

court action and this is what you have received.

After hiring a lawyer, he/she will file an appearance on your behalf and you will then be

able to see and answer any complaint filed against you. It is very important that you take

action, because if a child support order is entered and you end up not paying the court ordered amount, you can be held in comtempt of court and put in jail. I hope my answer has been helpful and I will be happy to answer any

additional questions that you might have.
