Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Child Support Notice.....

I live in Illinois and received a request for child support from North Carolina. I did have a brief relationship with the woman claiming to have my child but she was never a resident in Illinois and I have never been to N.C. My question is:

1. How can 8 years after the relationship ended can the state try to get support when there is no proof that I am the parent? I have never even seen the child and I never signed the birth certificate. I guess she just put my name down as the father without my consent.

This is just a brief rundown... Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Child Support Notice.....

Are you certain she never brought a parentage action in North Carolina? You aren't going to just randomly receive a request for child support if paternity was never established, so I'd recommend finding yourself a North Carolina family law attorney.
