Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Child Support

My parents were just awarded full custody of their granddaughter. My sister is deceased and she and the father were divorced--name removed--few years before her death, one year ago. The father stopped paying child support--name removed--few years ago, when he also stopped visiting his daughter. Now that the court has given my parents custody, can they expect to receive back child support?

Re: Child Support

Your parents have the right to pursue the child support on behalf of the child. They will need to petition the court so that the new child support order reflects their custody of the child. They will then need to "locate" the father and place the new child support order with his employer.
